TerraViva Competitions launches the 4th edition of TACTICAL URBANISM NOW! The challenge of this competition is to introduce new urban scenarios in which short-term interventions may become test beds for future city prototypes. Prizes up to 10.000 € will be awarded to the winners selected by an international jury panel composed, among others, by Michel Lauzon [LAAB Collective], Luisina Perassi [Humankind], Stefano Recalcati [ARUP], and Vidhya Mohankuma [Urban Design Collective].
Brief The annual Tactical Urbanism NOW! competition is set to encourage creative and forward-thinking designers to propose new original spaces fostering long-term and sustainable changes. For its 4th edition, the contest calls for innovative tactical solutions able to reimagine cities all over the globe. In today’s digital age, cities are quickly evolving into experimental workshops to address the common issues of climate change, shrinkage, uneven growth, fragmentation and unequal distribution of resources. Still, to reach the forefront of high-tech city revolution, we should probably start from the bottom-up recoveries. TerraViva invites each team of designers to envision new flexible solutions for a world in transition. Architects, planners, designers, artists and makers are all invited to become real placemakers and new agents of change!

Guidelines The goal of this competition is to experiment with site-specific case studies that can work as open laboratories to test novel approaches on urban transformation. Designers have complete freedom to outline the program, the overall output and the extents of their proposal. The project area can be situated in any city, town, county or neighbourhood around the globe. The emphasis lies on aligning the selection with the overarching goal of creating tangible beneficial changes in the public realm. The freedom to innovate and the transformative potential of the project should be the guiding factors in making this decision. While the possibilities are endless, contestants are asked to explain the reasoning behind their concept. This competition, collecting projects from the most ordinary to the most unusual sites, is a proof that urban acupuncture is deemed fitting in any possible context.
