| the union internationale des architectes [uia] has launched an international urban design ideas competition. the unesco-backed competition, 'defining an architecture for the 21st century' will aim to collect 'user orientated and resource-saving design ideas for redeveloping an inner city area in berlin-mitte'. a total prize fund of £31,000 is on offer. the hope is that the competition winners will set an example for the development of inner-city 'wastelands' as well as explore the future direction and architectural language of cities. the prize ceremony and an exhibition showing the competition winners will be held during the 21st world congress of architecture 2002: 'resource architecture', running from 22-26 july 2002 in berlin. students with architecture or urban planning as their main subject who have studied for at least two years are eligible to compete. students with landscape planning, landscape architecture, art, ecology, sociology, structural or civil engineering as main subjects may enter, but only in participation with architecture or urban planning students. the entries will be judged anonymously. the closing date for entries is 27 april 2002. the full competition brief can be viewed at the world congress of architecture website http://www.uia-architectes.org/count-uia.shtml |
