| the aud$260 million millennium arts project is a five-year program which will further position queensland's capital city, brisbane, as australia's centre for arts and culture. the project is a landmark initiative for the city of brisbane and the state of queensland. it involves the development of a strategic planning framework for the queensland cultural centre precinct, brisbane and a significant regional program. the project includes the design and construction of the aud$100 million queensland gallery of modern art, which builds on the achievements of the queensland art gallery. the new gallery will be the largest gallery of modern art in australia and a significant addition to the nation's civic architecture. an architect selection competition is being held to select the architect who is best able to work with the queensland art gallery in interpreting and translating the gallery's vision and its functional needs into dynamic architecture. the competition involves two stages, the first stage of which is open to architects worldwide regardless of their experience. all shortlisted architects will be required to form an association with a substantial queensland-registered and based architectural practice and establish an office in brisbane for the duration of the project. architects should register in the architect selection competition online. following registration and payment of a registration fee [$aud150.00], the stage 1 competition document will be made available to competitors. registration for the competition is available from 18 july 2001 and the stage 1 competition document will be released from 25 july 2001. registrations must be received by 2pm aest on 5 september 2001 [that is, one week prior to the due date for submission of stage 1 entries]. each entrant will receive an architect entry code which must be clearly displayed on their stage 1 entry. for information on the millennium arts project, visit http://www.millenniumarts.qld.gov.au for more information or to register, contact: website: http://www.gallerymodern.qld.gov.au |
