Archasm has launched their latest design competition—Liberty Museum, New York: Freedom to the People. Open to architects, students, and artists around the world, the architecture competition seeks ideas for a “Liberty Museum” on the site of the legendary Statue of Liberty National Monument on New York’s Liberty Island. The proposed museum should create a new-world ideal and symbol for the cause of civil rights and social justice. Cash prizes totaling 200,000 Indian Rupees [approximately $2,980 USD] will be distributed among the top three winners. The registration deadline is November 29, 2016; the registration fee for Indian nationals is different from that for foreigners. The submission deadline is November 30, 2016.
As the Statue of Liberty nears its 130th anniversary, the competition seeks to create a museum on the site of the legendary Statue of Liberty National Monument, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The museum should strive to create a new-world ideal and symbol for the cause of civil rights and social justice. The museum should be an icon that would generate mass awareness on the aforementioned issues and provide a more immersive and interpretive learning experience for the visitors on various aspects and events of the civil rights movement, becoming a ‘virtual epicenter’ for the resistence against tyranny. The museum should aim to increase the visitor capacity to the Liberty island manifoldly, adding a wide range of activities and programs[ galleries, theatre, data centre, library, social zone etc.] which would increase the social exchange between different people. Lastly, the museum should reflect and translate the theme into a contemporary landmark for the world, ‘making America great again.’
