Since Tainan County and Tainan City merged, the Tainan Municipal Library can no longer satisfy the increased population. There should be a foresighted planning for the future library’s function and its role of the city. The Tainan City Government invites all domestic and international excellent teams to take part in the Design Competition for Design and Construction Supervision Service of Tainan Public Library Project, which is going to be an important construction of Tainan’s cultural development.
The Tainan Public Library is going to be located in the old site of Yongkang Artillery School. The area of the construction site is over 15,000m² with the building coverage ratio of 60% and the floor area ratio of 250%. The estimated floor area required of the library is approximately 35,000m². The budget of construction contract is approximately NTD$1,400,000,000. The library is expected to accommodate at least 600,000 collections and 1,000 categories of magazine. It is also anticipated to include a compact storage of 400,000 volumes, a public service area, as well as an operation and management area.
We sincerely welcome all domestic and international excellent architecture teams to participate in this design competition. Let’s build Tainan Public Library which will provide a place for the citizens to enjoy reading and digital services, receive diverse education and take part in the urban leisure activities.
