hi, i’m jari puhakka, ceo of takamaki ltd.
just a few instructions for the required image quality of this competition:
---
currently mobile phone covers are decorated with naive and simple images
due to technological limitations. takamaki's coating technology enables
decoration of mobile phone covers with stunning photo-realism.
quality and possibilities of decoration is unseen!
the designs we are looking for should produce 'wow' factor,
i.e. a buyer would be stunned by the quality and details of decoration.
the designs should combine photos with image processing in order to clearly
demonstrate technology edge our technology has.
one point is worth mentioning: we can position images on front and back cover
with 0.5 millimeter accuracy, hence images which go around the phone are plausible to produce.
designs should be targeted to pre-family [16 - 22 years] and 'urban professionals' segments.
market data shows that users in those segments shy flashy covers.
individualization and self-expression doesn't mean standing out from the crowd
by having a tacky or shabby cover!
instead they are taken by sophisticated designs which reveal details and textures
on close observation.
we can coat covers with 400 dpi resolution, that should give you impression of quality.

01 - the subject of the competition is 'decoration for mobile phone covers'
02 - awards and prizes
3 - t a k a m a k i - a w a r d s
will be granted for the excellent design selected, which will be
merchandized by takamaki ltd.
winners will receive the prize money in the form of royalties.
[authors of winning designs that takamaki decided to put into
production will be compensated by a royalty generated from the
performance of sales:
euro 0.3 per sold decorated mobile phone cover!
of a stunning design takamaki sell tens of thousands of covers monthly,
hence potential upswing for author is substantial].

06 - work
the design documents are to consist of the following two elements:
1] up to 5 different images,
cmyk .pds [photoshop image] or tiff file:
1200 x 2100 pixels [8 x 14 cm],
400dpi [157 pixels/cm] format
saved on cd.r or cd-rw,
to be forwarded to takamaki ltd. only in case of winning design.
2] explanation of ideas [text in english]
* your name
* title of work
* description of work within 100 words, explanation is expected to be concise.
* declaration of authorship,
please add:
the design is my own creation and has been developed in conformity
with the takamaki competition’s guideline.
[competition’s guideline:
the design shall not in any way infringe any third party’s right,
including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, trade names,
or other proprietary rights of publicity or privacy.]
07 - how to send your work
please send only e-mail[s] with your image[s] and text[s].
as final files are usually too big to send via e-mail,
you are asked to forward a lower resolution copy:
jpeg / gif file, limited to 1mb.
you can participate with a maximum of 5 works.
each work should be forwarded in a separate e-mail.
* we will send you a receipt of your work by e-mail as soon as
we receive your work.

copyright or design right of the work sent in for application is owned
by the applicant.
however, takamaki ltd. owns the right of merchandizing the works that
received the t a k a m a k i - a w a r d .
takamaki ltd. owns the right for exhibition and publication of all the work sent in.
