the riba competitions office is organising an invited design competition on behalf of walsall council. multi-disciplinary, architect-led teams are invited to submit expressions of interest to design a new community library facility in bentley, walsall.
the regeneration of the bentley local centre, with the provision of a new landmark library building, housing and comprehensive public realm improvements is one of 10 transformational projects outlined in the borough’s strategic regeneration framework. the new library building is seen as a flagship project for bentley that will create a new urban heart for the community and act as a catalyst for regenerating the local centre and the wider area.
the selection process will take the form of an invited design competition, preceded by a ‘trawl of interest’. a shortlist of [up to] six teams will be invited to proceed to the design phase of the competition. each of the short-listed teams will receive an honorarium of gbp £4,500 [+vat] to develop a design proposal - two a1 foam-mounted boards, a short accompanying report and elemental cost breakdown. the successful team’s honorarium will represent an advance payment on fees for the subsequent commission. competition web site : http://www.architecture.com/useanarchitect/findanarchitect/competitions/competitions.aspx email competition : [email protected]
