welcome to the te wero bridge project.
auckland city council is throwing down a challenge to creative members of the public and engineering and architectural firms worldwide, to shape an enduring landmark on an outstanding new zealand waterfront location.
a dramatic opening bridge - for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport - is proposed on auckland's city waterfront.
registration deadline for the open concept design competition is august 17, 2007. the deadline for both the expressions of interest submissions and open concept design competition entries is august 31, 2007. seize the challenge to create a striking sculptural bridge in one of the world's most beautiful waterfront locations.
auckland city council is looking for outstanding design innovation, excellence and creativity. spanning over 100m of water, and designed to open for boat traffic, the bridge will sit almost at the mouth of the inner viaduct harbour, a place world-renowned as home to two america's cup regattas.
te wero bridge will connect the city with the soon-to-be-developed wynyard quarter. viaduct harbour is well-known to international sailors, aucklanders [who passionately love their waterfront], new zealanders and visitors from around the world. the bridge will complete a continuous waterfront connection between downtown auckland and wynyard quarter to the west. construction is expected to finish by early 2011, ready for when the eyes of the world will be on us for the rugby world cup 2011. competition web site : http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council/projects/tewero/default.asp competition email : [email protected]
