rules and general information
eligibility: any original product that was introduced anywhere in the world between jan. 1, 2003, and dec. 31, 2003, is eligible for this competition. [note: this does not apply to projects entered in the concepts category.] environmental projects must have been completed during this period. graphic designs and packaging must have been published or distributed within this period.
fees: entry fees are $100 for each submission. late entries [postmarked after december 1, 2003] must include a $25 late fee. no entries postmarked after december 15, 2003, will be accepted.
awards: all entries may be prescreened. a panel of distinguished design professionals will choose three levels of awards for finalists in each category: best of category, design distinction and honorable mention. award winners will be featured in the august 2004 issue of i.d. magazine and may appear on the i.d. web site [www.idonline.com]. winners will be notified by fax or mail by june 30, 2004.
entry form accuracy and copyright information: information you provide on this form may appear in the august 2004 issue of i.d. magazine and on www.idonline.com. credit information may need to be condensed or edited for length. i.d. is not responsible for incorrect information provided on entry forms that misrepresents the copyright of original ownership of ideas or products. i.d. assumes that all entries are original and are the works and property of the entrant, with all rights granted therein. i.d. is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant.
image rights: i.d. magazine assumes that all images provided with entries are free of copyright infringement and that the entrant has secured permission for submitted image[s] to appear in the august 2004 issue of i.d. magazine and on www.idonline.com. i.d. will include photographer credits if that information is provided on the designated line on the official entry form.
multiple submissions: designs may be entered in more than one category; submit a separate entry form and fee for each category entered. jurors reserve the right to recategorize entries and to create new categories, if appropriate.
returns: all submitted materials become the property of i.d. magazine and will not be returned. if you would like non-winning product samples to be returned, enclose a pre-paid airbill and a $10 fee for each product sample with your entry form. under no circumstances will product samples be returned if pre-paid airbills and fees are not submitted with your entry. i.d. magazine is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. winning projects will not be returned.

1. fill out the entry form completely. entry forms may be downloaded from www.idonline.com, photocopied or scanned. additional sheets of paper may be attached to provide more information about a product‘s capabilities, background, dimensions, etc., or to provide additional credit information. incomplete forms will result in disqualification. 2. each entry must be accompanied by a check drawn through a u.s. bank or an international money order made out to i.d. magazine, or include a credit-card number with expiration date, along with a completed and signed 2004 entry form. the charge will appear on your statement as f&w contests. foreign checks and bank transfers are not acceptable. one check may be used to cover multiple entries as long as all entries are sent in the same package. your canceled check is your receipt. 3. include one original and four photocopies of your completed entry form with your submission. 4. if you are submitting artwork with your entry [see 'what to submit' section for more details about auxiliary materials], please include publication-quality images that are clearly labeled and identified. i.d. assumes that all images submitted with entries are free of copyright infringement and that the entrant has secured permission from any third-party individuals to include these images in the august 2004 issue of i.d. magazine and on www.idonline.com should the project be selected as a winner. please include photographer credit information on the entry form. 5. if you would like non-winning product samples to be returned, enclose a pre-paid airbill and a $10 fee for each product sample with your entry form.
what to submit
consumer products, furniture and equipment: send the actual product if it weighs under 25 pounds. slides or transparencies are required if the actual object is not sent. do not send renderings. send actual photos of manufactured product. finalists may be asked to submit a free sample of product to be photographed. do include additional background materials, such as brochures, fact sheets, user information, specifications, etc.
graphics and packaging: send two actual samples of project, along with slides or transparencies. for billboards or other large-scale projects, submit slides or transparencies. non-print submissions [film, video, motion graphics] must be accompanied by a 1/2-inch vhs videotape or macformat cd and screen-grabs on a cd.
environments: include slides or transparencies of the environment, plus installation views, drawings, blueprints/floor plans to convey a clear understanding of the project‘s context, circulation routes and major design/construction features. all images should be clearly identified and cross-referenced to the overall floor plan.
concepts: include samples, drawings, renderings, comps, mock-ups, slides, 8 1/2x11-inch photos and background information, specifications, fact sheets. please do not submit original models if fragile.
